How long after joining Fluther.com do you manage to do anything else with your day?

Asked by joannamc (360points) February 22nd, 2011

I have just discovered and instantly joined Fluther. I feel at home among my fellow jellyfish but just wondered if anyone can tell me, approximately, how long it is before you stop reading questions and answers and get back to your list of ‘things that really really should be done’?

Hi there and welcome to Fluther!!

I’m with @sakura.. you can be in and out all day… I do take breaks though.
I’ll stop popping in for a few days if there’s been a period of really boring, or really dumb questions (for example ‘My Cat’s stopped breathing, what should I do..?’).

Can’t keep out for long though….

Have fun!!

Ok. Thank you both. I am on holiday from work this week and supposed to be doing “a bit of DIY”! Let’s see how far that gets. I will probably end up Fluthering my DIY questions now and never get anything done. Oh joy.

And thank you for my welcomes.

There’s something else to do?

Welcome to Fluther!

I actually deleted my account once for a short period in order to force myself to stay away…

And just FYI, questions that are about Fluther belong in the Meta section.

About 2½ years.

joannamc's avatar

@janbb thanks for the precise information. Maybe I should think about getting a decorator in to do the DIY!

Try to flee while you still have your strength. After day two you’re history and all who enter here abandon hope. But at least you’ll have lots of great company. Welcome to fluther.

jonsblond's avatar

I’m with @janbb. Give it about 2 years and all the questions will look the same, then you won’t feel bad for leaving Fluther to do other things. ;)

The first day you are hooked and the day is completely fucked. Then, expect the next week to be on and off fluthering, and drifting in and out of sleep while dreaming of fluthering. Then you write down questions so as not to forget them, and you’re hooked… line and sinker.

The second week you settle into a routine where you can resume work, family and other unimportant but necessary things while fluthering as much as possible and getting the minimum required sleep needed to survive – but not more.

After a month, you’re a jelly. Welcome, oh brother from another fluther.

I’m basically always on when I’m at work, and probably waste too much time at home, too.

I was fluther wacko for about a year, then I quit cold turkey for maybe 6 months. Now I come back 1–2 times a day and answer 1–2 of every 10 questions in my “questions for you” box.

GQ but I don’t know, I am completely addicted.

@seazen I thought I was the only ‘nerd’ that dreamed about fluther. Whew….. what a relief!

JilltheTooth's avatar

@dreamer31 ; If I don’t walk away by 8:00 PM I also dream about Fluther. Makes it hard because I live in the eastern US and the party’s just getting started then.

I can’t resist checking out fluther each and every day, even though I am working on other things.
It’s a bad good habit which we can’t resist – oh and lots of fun
Welcome to fluther

I was unable to wean myself off Fluther until a couple months after I joined. The only reason I had to reduce my time here was because fall quarter began at my university. I still sign on Fluther every day, doll out lurve, and make posts now and then but I cannot afford to be as active as I used to be… and I used to be on here every waking hour of my day. After I graduate, I am sure that I will be back again :)

Welcome to Fluther :) I felt at home when I joined, too.

joannamc's avatar

Thank you all for the welcomes. I sense a lovely new world.

augustlan's avatar

@joannamc I knew you were going to fit right in! Anyone who takes the time to reply to our verification email with a verse of her own is destined to be a jelly.

Be forewarned… I fluthered like it was my job. Now, it is my job! So, just let me know if you need anything. :)

JilltheTooth's avatar

Oh, yeah, @joannamc , Auggie’s our Mom. She’s a good and benevolent mom, but she does have a whip and stillettoes if she needs ‘em…

seazen's avatar

Auggie in stillettoes and whip? Pics or it never happened.

dreamer31's avatar

@augustlan how awesome is that? I’m jealous, I want to fluther as a job! lord knows I’m on here enough

augustlan's avatar

@seazen Here ya’ go.

@dreamer31 It is pretty awesome. :)

seazen's avatar

Aaaargh.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@augustlan Nice! And you run fluther. What more could anyone want?

lillycoyote's avatar

I don’t feel qualified to answer this question because I’m certainly not on here, for hours, almost every day.

Jeruba's avatar

Could be more than 2½ years. I don’t know yet. Welcome to fluther.

Bellatrix's avatar

I really don’t have time to fluther at work at the moment so I don’t log in anywhere but at home. That is working for me. Once I am home though, I find myself checking fluther regularly.

joannamc's avatar

@lillycoyote So at what point do I expect to reach the denial stage?

JilltheTooth's avatar

There’s a denial stage???

joannamc's avatar

I think that there must be. I think that our @lillycoyote may be there. Unless, and I quote

“I don’t feel qualified to answer this question because I’m certainly not on here, for hours, almost every day.”
is absolutely true. But I sense slight denial!

lillycoyote's avatar

I don’t believe in denial. ;-)
