Why do some people reply with answers completely written in a teeny weeny font?

Asked by markferg (1882points) February 23rd, 2011

On a 13 inch laptop, it’s too small for me to read comfortably, I would read a word or two at that size, but I’m not going to strain my eyes on any more than that, so I ignore those postings. Is that the intention, to keep the readership down to the hardcore jellies that will read it all, come what may?

We’re whispering.

Hi Lilly how are you? Whisper back.

markferg's avatar

yes, but why bother? Oww, my eyes!

For off-topic side conversations (in the Social and Meta sections), we actually prefer that people whisper. I’ve noticed one or two members who seem to whisper everything, though, and I’ve got no idea why they do.

I’m pretty sure there’s a way to ‘zoom in’ on your screen (maybe hitting the ”+” key?) in most browsers. That might help your poor eyes. :)

Ctrl + ”+” will make the font larger. Ctrl + ”-” will make it smaller. I believe JohnPowell made an app to zoom in on a certain area, too. Perhaps someone can chime in with the info.

+1.00 reading glasses help too.

Actually, it is to keep things limited to hardcore jellies only – that’s why Fluther has provided us with 32” monitors…~

Really, it’s not intended to bother anyone – just the opposite, as @augustlan suggested. If I’m not “in on” the joke, I don’t have to read the whispers if I don’t want to. I just read a thread, for example, that had a few posts in whispers between two jellies, and I just skipped over them. It’s just a way to show that what you’re writing doesn’t have anything to do with the topic at hand.

@augustlan – Glad to see the birdie avatar is back – it’s my favourite :)
There’s an example for ya.

have you considered reading glasses?

I’m hardcore.

mrentropy's avatar

I skip over them, most of the time.

I use it when “talking” to myself…from reading these answers, I am apparantly using it wrong and need to study up!

I believe they are ashamed of what they are saying, otherwise they would write it so you don’t have to get closer to read it.

I skip over them because anything that shameful is not worth reading.

markferg's avatar

ok, I won’t feel guilty now when I don’t read the tenny weeny comments!

Its a whisper, but I have a minimum font size set in Firefox so I can never tell they’re any different from normal.

Because we are wee and tiny people.

I have a very small keyboard.

maybe you are doing something that is making you go blind?

FutureMemory's avatar

Because we can.

There’s something deeply (I love using italics, it may be a bad habit) powerful about whispering. Try it; call someone over to you, then get them close and start to whisper (love it) to them, they will think you are telling them something really important!

or even really important…!

auntydeb's avatar

@Jeruba do you use an imac?

Jeruba's avatar

No, @auntydeb. I was joking.

See? Big letters.

@Jeruba – question was genuine, there are such things as little keyboards.
