How was your drive in this morning?

Asked by Adirondackwannabe (36713points) February 25th, 2011

Okay, the weather forecast was 1 to 3 inches of snow and possibly some rain. Now it’s changed to 6 to 10 inches of snow. There’s 6 inches in the roads on the way in. The car is sliding all over the place because of the deep snow and the tires can’t get any grip. The g/f asks if I’m doing it on purpose? How was your drive today?

Foggy. No snow right now.

It’s pouring down rain, here. Good for melting, bad for basements. I envision swimming in mine later today. I imagine there’s some hydroplaning going on out there this morning.

I’m south of you and we just have a lot of rain. There’s no snow forecasted. The drive was typical…people driving 40mph as if they’ll do a barrel roll if they go any faster.

Ok, It’s snowing harder and the lights are flickering. Joy.

We had some icing overnight, but the rain is washing it away now. (I live in CT, too, same as @JilltheTooth. I was going to say that ‘I live in CT with @JilltheTooth, but I didn’t want to leave any false impressions.)

And it’s a pretty heavy rain right now.

@WasCy :, yeah, you don’t want to make MissAusten jealous!

How hard is it raining? We’re getting about 2 to 3 inches of snow an hour.

Retired. No driving. I did most of my driving in a police car. 2.5 million miles in 44 years.

Time now for me to relax and watch everyone else “slip and slide”.

Heck, snow is the least of my commuting annoyance.

For me, regardless of the weather I have to traverse 20+ miles of Loop 1 along at the same time as those gabillion other nimrods out there, all of whom appear to have graduated from the kamikaze school of demolition derby driving.

Heavy rains here, strong winds (30–40 mph). The car was moving in the wind. My umbrella survived the last two blocks walking in, but it was close.

The temperature is supposed to plunge midday, and may snow down to sea level. I 80 is open, but chains required from the 1500 foot level.

I am in the San Francisco Bay Area.

There was slightly less traffic on the road than usual because the schools are on a break this week (half term) so I didn’t get stuck in a queue like I usually do during rush hour. I spent about 15 minutes ofit listening to music and the rest talking to my boyfriend (hands free!) which is pretty much the same as every morning drive to work (my boyfriend always calls me between 8am and 8.30am for a morning chat!). The weather was overcast but visibility was decent. I always enjoy my morning commute. It’s my time to think and clear my mind ready for the day ahead.

However, doing the same route but with snow and icy roads to dealk with is not fun at all. I live in a very hilly part of the country. I don’t envy you.

I haven’t driven anywhere, but we got what looks to be about a half-inch of snow overnight, but it’s pretty mild so the streets are clear.

My trip down to the laundry room was quite pleasant, though; thanks!

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Seelix How can you be in Canada and we get all the snow? Smartass.

Seelix's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe – I went home to Sudbury the other day, and we got about 3 inches overnight… does that help? Snow really doesn’t last long in downtown Toronto; it’s just too warm with all the people and cars and stuff.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Seelix You don’t think of a Canadian saying it’s too warm for snow. I’ll have to check on Syracuse’s total for this year. They were on track to break the record of 199 inches. Also in NY, Buffalo.

I haven’t been out driving today – working from home.
The weather is extremely dull here in the UK, forecast was rain, but it hasn’t appeared yet. Temperature 51F

Slightly overcast, still a lovely bike ride :)

Light rain this morning, temps about 62. Rain ending by noon and clearing with a high around 74.
So I can answer this query in one word: uneventful!

My drive was beautiful! Sun was shining, 50 something degrees, and the radio station was playing a dance party mix with cheesy music from the 80s and 90s. I danced and sang the whole way in. Thanks for asking!

Hey, all you happy people with your sun or riding your bikes, I have just one thing to say: Fuck you.

The bus arrived on time. There are ominous dark clouds swallowing what blue of the sky remains. I’m a fan of dark, chilly, rainy weather (which means that I am one happy camper today.) I also rediscovered “Horses in My Dreams” by P.J. Harvey—that song is gorgeous.
