If you could spend one day with your grandparents or one day with your grandchildren, who would you choose and why?

Asked by MatChup (204points) February 27th, 2011

I would choose my grandparents since they are no longer with us and I still don’t have grandchildren. I wish I had spent more time sharing and learning valuable lessons my grandparents lived and be able to use them in my own life. However, at that time I wasn’t mature enough to consider important listening to their stories. My priorities back then weren’t about family and learning from other people’s experiences. Now that I don’t have my grandparents I wish I had been with them longer and enjoy times together.

I would choose my grandparents since I am only 16 and so I do not have any grandchildren. Also adding to that my grandparents live in a whole another continent and so do I. They are in Africa and I am in Europe and so that is VERY difficult and very expensive as well to get to see them. Hope this year we will have enough money for all three of us to go visit because I really miss them. Most of my life I have always lived with them and they are the ones to thank for the person that I am today. If it was not for them I am not quite sure what I would be doing at this very moment and for a living.

Since I am spending the day with my grandson and delightfully so, I would choose the thing I cannot have which is a day with my grandparents.

I don’t have any grandchildren, so I would spend a day with my grandparents. Plus, I like my grandparents. They’re not grumpy or anything.

I wish I could spend one more day with my parents.

With my grandparents. I would love to interact with them as an adult—something i never had the opportunity to do.

Definitely my grandparents. I have a lot of things I would love to ask them.

Paternal grandfather: what were you thinking messing around with your brother-in-law’s wife?

Paternal grandmother: she led a noble life but succumbed to alcoholism. She’s the only grandparent I got to know albeit in a small way. I would love to ask her about her early life.

Maternal grandfather: he was an idealistic, individualistic, headstrong young man. He fell in love with a woman 7 years his senior (when he was 17) and lied to her about his age. They got married, had my mom and then he was off to WWII were he died when he was 18. He’d be cool to talk to.

Maternal grandmother: Had her heart broken when my grandfather died. She contracted TB while working and lived the rest of her life in a sanitarium. She died when my mother was 10. I look a lot like her. She came from a vaudeville family and would be really interesting to talk to.

Grandparents, paternal (who have passed on). The grandchildren will come about on their own, and there are inherent dangers to knowing the future.

Grandparents. I’m with @Nullo to where I can cherish the known past, I also have a healthy fear of the unknown not yet for sure.

Since my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren all live in Seattle, we do not have favorites.

When they learn that we are coming to visit, they all appear for a big welcome party.

No favorites here.

Save a spot for me/us @john65pennington! All of my maternal family, gazillions of them, are in the Seattle area too! We’ll get this party started!

I have neither grandparents, nor children. If my grands could come back to life for a day, I’d spend that day with them. If the souls of grandchildren future could appear, I would spend a day with them.

I never met my dad’s parents so I’d like to go back in time and meet them.
