Are our numbers portable to VoIP service?

We are planing to switch the whole company to some low cost calling solution like VoIP. The problem is that we have been in the business for 4 years. We have six branches and can’t afford to loose any number. I have contacted a few providers but they said they could not port our number.

It depends on the provider and the area. For a long time, Vonage couldn’t use my existing phone number (or any existing phone number in my area). Once they could, I switched.
