What's the deal with awards?

My details says that I have one award—the Herman Melville. Shouldn’t I have more than just that one? I mean, logically, in order to get five “great answers” I have to have gotten the award for first “great answer” and “wrote first answer”.
Anyhow, there’s a bunch I should have, but don’t. And I like feeling like I accomplished something, even if it’s silly and insignificant. I mean, that’s what they’re there for, right?
