Is there a way to program apps on a PC?

Asked by XOIIO (18328points) March 2nd, 2011

I have a few app ideas, but I only own a PC. I know that the program for making apps has an emulator and everything, but is there a way to make and submit apps on a PC?

Android Software Development Kit (SDK)

Apple’s ios SDK is Mac only. Here is a workaround, I can’t vouch for it, it’s just something I Googled up.

Installing iOS SDK and Xcode on Windows 7

@jaytkay Great, cause I have windows 7. I really hope that there is a way to do this.I don’t want to shell out for a new mac just to make apps.

Apps for what? Did you know that “App” just stands for “application program”, and could mean for Windows, too, or for any computer? There are iPhone emulators and dev kits available to run on PC, too. Not sure what you are looking for.

@Zaku Yeah, iphone apps.

Can you reccomend any emulators and dev kits for pc?

I can’t recommend any, but I think Appcelerator may be a good bet.

I think you may still need to borrow (or emulate) a Mac long enough to register it for the App Store, if you want to sell it on the App Store (or have someone with a Mac do that step for you).

@Zaku Yeah, I’m waiting on a reply from someone about a problem installing osx on virtualbox, but i still want to work on stuff

I don’t know. Seems worth another question topic, though.
