What is the fascination and need of the founders to be actually present here?

Asked by seazen (6123points) March 4th, 2011

I mean, they are brilliant and all – but when I buy Kentucky Fried chicken I don’t need to be served by the Colonel personally.

What’s all the bitching and moaning about?

Lisa’s here to manage things (and does it brilliantly), lots of amazing old timers are here (I won’t start naming them) and hey, I’m here – what more do you need from fluther?

Being a relative new-comer, I guess I don’t know what I am missing. What additional management does Fluther need?

seazen's avatar

I don’t think a year is a newcomer, @zenvelo – you remember when Ben and Andrew (and their helpers) were much more present – even daily. There has been a lot of chat about “why aren’t they here anymore” and “why have they left and abandoned us?”

I think it is their prerogative, and I buy Apple products without Steve Jobs signing the receipt.

I’m OK with how things are now. But then, it isn;t me bitching. Well, except when the server went down today. I needed to pop back and edit a reply, but ZONK! No dice.

I’ve always hated goodbyes, myself. I have been of a conservative temperament since third grade; abrupt change (particularly when it isn’t my idea) is not my favorite. Suddenly losing founders is similar.

I hadn’t really noticed any complaints, aside from the initial meltdown when the plans to move to Twitter were announced. That was pretty much panic all around, but I haven’t really heard anything about it, since.
Then again, someone always has something to complain about. That’s a given anywhere.

Agreed. As long as someone is running this joint and keeping us in line then I don’t see a problem. Lisa is doing a really great job and certainly doesn’t need the founders to babysit her.

I don’t see a lot of moaning and complaining of late. Where is it?

@seazen You buy Apple products? I never tried that. I won a game worn baseball jersey in a silent auction last season. After the game, the players came out onto the concourse and took of the jerseys right in front of you and personally handed they jersey to you. I got mine signed by Mr. 714 himself.

But, no, you’re right. I’m a new comer here as well, and not sure what I’m missing. Maybe it’s a “You don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone” sort of a thing.

One cause for concern is that technical changes on Fluther are (most likely) over now. No new suggestions are likely to ever be implemented. (Correct me if I’m wrong on that)

I’ve had one e-home ripped from me (RIP AiROW) because its founder lost interest and I’m a little paranoid about losing Fluther for the same. But I won’t bitch about them not being around so long as they let us keep playing.

@Mariah wis.dm was yanked from under us a couple of years ago – and we, too, are probably more paranoid than your average fluther visitor. However, I have a feeling that (at least through Lisa) we would be told in advance of complete actual closure. I like to think that we have gotten to know Andrew and Ben over the years – and they know how important fluther is to us. I don’t think they’d do something like that. I really don’t.

If I created something, I’d want to see how that creation played out its existence.

seazen's avatar

So create something.

@seazen, I did. It’s called “The Universe.”

My work here is done.

I clicked on Thank Fiddle Playing Creole Bastard and it corrected me: Thank God.

I have gotten used to it but I miss them, just as I miss others who have gone. Time Trueman, especially, but all of them, brought a lot of relevant info and entertainment my way. I wish they would drop in once in a while. * sigh *

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard they have been here from the first question about salt and pepper years and years before my time until very recently, when they secured more-or-less permanent funding for a mature site. They were there for all the growing pains [as well as mothers, aunts, and childhood friends]. There is not much more to see Flutherr do.

I just wanted to pop in and thank you guys for your support. I really appreciate it! :)

Also, even though you don’t see them as often, the guys are still very much involved with the site.

Bitching? I haven’t been around lately. Did something happen? Waddup yah?

breedmitch's avatar

You buy KFC? You really shouldn’t eat that crap.

seazen's avatar

@breedmitch It’s different here. Free-range chickens.

janbb's avatar

Hi Ben! Hi Andrew! – if you’re around.

andrew's avatar

Oh, we’re here.

janbb's avatar

Did I just hear a twitter in the room?

cookieman's avatar
