Look closey at your hair and you can pretty much tell what split ends are when you see them, at the end of your hair try looking at a couple pieces. && usually you can tell when you’re hair is dead by the feeling or way it reacts. (Kind of a rough feeling)

I like to get my hair trimmed every 6 to 8 weeks. That seems to keep split ends at bay.
amandaafoote is right. You can actually see a little “y” on the end of a split peice of hair if you look close.

I thought your hair was dead almost immediately after it was out of your head?

yes Bri L is right. It is a dead protein. Therefore if you wish to cut it when it is dead, you must keep shaving your head

Ok, because the hair closer to your head always looks so much darker. In my head I assumed it was somewhat alive. I guess I can put hair in the column with cell phones and cooking as things that for some reason i just don’t get.

Some days I think my hair is alive because it has a mind of it’s own!

Your hair is dead, but if you want to keep it from getting split ends you have to trim it every 6–8 weeks and doing a conditioner once a week helps. Doing so will keep your hair feeling and looking healthy.

seriously? Well hair is made out of dead cells… But split ends are a good indication that its time to get a trim
