How do I set up a charity event?

I want to set up a small music festival in my city, all local performers that want to play in honor of helping Japan and taking donations. I have no idea how to go about this, any tips? Thanks!

There are a lot of sites that give great tips for fund raising. I suggest your answer would be to do a search on Charity fund raising.

Like @ marinelife said, make sure you set up the proper charity. Lot into a 501 c (3), since you want your profits to go to the charity. There are different statuses for charities, so make sure you do your homework.
