Will changing my address affect my financial aid?

Asked by lbwhite89 (1213points) March 30th, 2011

In January, I moved out of my parents’ house and in with my fiance. Until recently, I kept my address as my parents’ house everywhere (school, work, etc). My status at work recently changed and I had to enter my new address. Since now all of my work mail, including my W2’s will be coming to my actual address, I’m wondering if I’ll have any problems with the different addresses.

My major concern is my financial aid. My school thinks that I live with my parents and I’m worried that they’ll decrease the amount of aid I’m given if I live alone. I’m 21, so I still have to use my parents’ income taxes either way.

Should I go ahead and change my address everywhere or is it even worth worrying about?

I don’t know about states besides California, but here you are considered a dependent until you are 24, whether you live with your folks or not. Good luck!
