If I am a size 16 in girl's shorts, what size would I be in men's shorts?

Asked by askmypoop (40points) April 2nd, 2011

I hate how short girl’s board shorts are, so I am looking for boys/mens shorts. I don’t know if I am a small, medium, large… And the ones that I want are online so I can’t really try them on.

If you measure your waist (or hips, depending on how low you wear your shorts) in inches, you can probably find a sizing chart on most online shopping sites that’ll tell you what waist circumference the sizes correspond to.

Sizes can vary quite a bit between brands. If you can’ t try on a pair that are the same brand as those you want to order, try to find a size chart. Failing that, see what their return policy is before you order, too, to make sure that you can exchange them if they don’t fit.

I wear a 30–32 inch waist in most men’s pants/shorts and that translates to a medium. I don’t wear them at my “true waist” and you probably won’t either I’m guessing?

From a quick look it sounds like size 16 is probably a little smaller in the actual waist and a little bigger in the hips, so a medium should be pretty close for you as well.

I know you’re probably aware, but there’s more the difference in cut than just the length. Men’s shorts tend to be more straight from the waist and don’t have extra room for all the lovely curves of a lady’s middle.

I’d grab a medium, but you can always grab a large and cinch them up as well if you don’t mind wearing them loose. Board shorts are supposed to have a little room to them.

I am size 8 and I totally agree. I almost always buy guy’s boardies. I just don’t like my ass hanging out or my middle either and women’s shorts always seem to be cut to look sexy not feel comfy. I wear a boy’s 14 or 16, a men’s small is usually too big.

Is there a store where you can go to try on a similar brand and then order on line? I order a lot of clothes online and it is always so difficult to find a good fit because there is no consistency in sizing.

I need to clarify. Girls 16, as in young girls? The childrens section? In boys is likely a large. You could also try a mens small.

If you mean adult size 16, that is probably 33 or 34 in mens, which is in the medium/large range for men.

If you are ordering online it should tell you the measurements and you can measure your waist and hips. In the store try a couple of size on. A sales person will help you if you go to a place like bloomingdales or a specialty store.
