Is Walgreens Pharmacy format a safe new item for its customers?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) April 11th, 2011

Today, I received an email from Walgreens, stating that I have three presciptions that are available for a refill. I did not ask for this service and wonder why its even necessary? I think each one of us knows when its time to refill a prescription and emailing the drugs name over the internet, could be attacked by hackers. Specifically, I am concerned about pain medicene that might be hijacked or stolen off the internet. Question: is this or should this be of grave concern for Walgreen customers?

Do you have to show photo ID when picking up your prescriptions? If so, this procedure shouldn’t be of worry to you.

I had the same concern when I received a text from my local pharmacy telling me my refills were ready to be picked up. What if I change my number? It literally said 2 prescriptions for Jessica___ are ready to be picked up! I’m calling them today to tell them not to do it again. I’m not comfortable with it. I’m sure Walgreens has the option to opt out of these notifications. I don’t think it’s safe/secure. Even though by law you have to show ID to pick up any narcotics they fail to do so sometimes.

In my state, you can’t “just get” a pain meds refilled.

Dr has to sign a script and have it on file at pharmacy.

Must have a picture ID and sign for ALL meds when you pick them up
