What does 4cm mean?
My cousin is currently in labour.I was talking to her over Facebook and she said she was 4cm when she got to the hospital and is now 7–8cm. What does this mean?

4 centimeters. It means that her cervix is dilated. At around 10cm her cervix will be fully dilated and they’ll have her push and ideally, deliver a baby.
That’s how far her cervix is dilated. it was at 4 centimeters and it’s now at 7–8. Yep…. @ANef_is_Enuf is exactly right.
Sounds like she is moving right along, shouldn’t be too much longer hopefully. New baby!

@Mz_Lizzy she is having a boy named Bently James and im not sure if she is going with the dads last name or her own. When she has it I will be sure to post al the information :). The only bad part is I wont be able to see her or the baby for a while because I live 5 hours away from her. :/

@seazen_ Funny. I think since labour is with a u, the OP knows the measurement of a cm. It’s just us Americans who are clueless.

Okay everyone :) Bently James born on the 21/5/11, 6.30pm, 8 pounds 4 ounces, 49cm long, already loves his food. Him and his mum (my cousin Beejay) are both doing very well and as my Aunty said, ’ Beejay did well through the birth and didn’t get angry or abusive at all.’ :)

No problem (: I saw photo’s this morning and its a really cute baby! Not just saying the because im the cousin but it is actually a good looking baby. And as mum said it is one fat baby. So happy everything went well, as we were worried because she is only 19 years old by a couple of days.
