What would be your tombstone song?

Asked by seazen_ (4801points) April 21st, 2011

I don’t know if this has been done for real – but I imagine in future we’ll be leaving all kinds of Star Wars type holograms after we’re dead.

I was thinking a little more low-tech; say a song playing from your tombstone whenever someone passes by.

What song would you choose to represent you – eternally?

Mine would be this one.

Extra lurve for an explanation. I’ll write mine in a little while.

I can’t hear the song you posted but if it is the Johnny Nash song, I love that one and used to sing it to my babies when they were little. Great choice. Mine is sort of self-explanatory and .. well it’s me. I’m a dag!!!!

Always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the bright side of life

Some things in life are bad, they can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse
When you’re chewing on life’s gristle, don’t grumble give a whistle
This will help things turn out for the best

Always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the right side of life

If life seems jolly rotten, there’s something you’ve forgotten
And that’s to laugh and smile and dance and sing
When you’re feeling in the dumps, don’t be silly, chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle, that’s the thing

So, always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life’s a counterfeit and when you look at it
Life’s a laugh and death’s the joke, it’s true
You see, it’s all a show, keep them laughing as you go
Just remember the last laugh is on you

Always look on the bright side of life
And always look on the right side of life
Always look on the bright side of life
And always look on the right side of life

Or ..

yibbida yibbida… that’s all folks…

I’d chose something like Pints of Guinness Make You Strong by Against Me! because first of all, it’s a great song. I really love the western punk feel.

The chorus goes:
“And just like James, I’ll be drinking Irish tonight
And the memory of this last work week will be gone forever.
Evelyn I’m not coming home tonight.
If we’re never together
If I’m never back again
Well I swear to God that I’ll love you forever.
Evelyn I’m not coming home tonight.”

It starts out real good with a don’t worry, I’m just getting drunk now. Which is pretty normal for me. People would be happy thinking of me as I was, I would assume.
Then “Evelyn I’m not coming home tonight” is pretty obvious.
It then goes into loving my girl and we all know that it’s important to let your girl know that you love her.
Then again with not coming home.

The rest of the song is about a girl not getting over her lover dying, which also seems pretty fitting, even though in reality, I’d expect her to do so eventually.

Like these?

But I have no idea what actual song I’d play for all eternity.

Actually maybe this one is better suited. :-)

My first thought is I’m Dying Tomorrow by Alkaline Trio.

I’m dying tomorrow
In this house, this street, Chicago
I’m dying tomorrow
Did I, did I do it right?

Did I remember to sleep in
Take lots of pills
Commit irreversible sins?
Did I, did I at least try to kiss the prettiest girl
At the right time?

Did I remember to keep your beer as full as mine?
Did I, did I remember to say cheers?
Did I, did I at least try to make sure everybody had a good time?
Had the best time

I’m dying tomorrow
In this house, this street, Chicago
I’m dying tomorrow
Did I, did I do it right?

Did I remember to stay up late
Drinking for the fun
Singing for the taste?
Did I, did I run outside to kiss the rain
Under electrical skies?

Did I remember to keep your beer as full as mine?
Did I, did I remember to say cheers?
Did I, did I at least try to make sure everybody had a good time?
Had the best time

I’m dying tomorrow
In this house, on this street, Chicago
I’m dying tomorrow
Did I, did I do it right?

It’d have to be Friday by Rebecca Black for me.

Terrible, terrible, terrible song.

@dverhey Would that song be your cause of death? I hope not!

My song would be something like this, or this. I think these songs are really pretty and also sort of reflect my thoughts about life/death.
But then again, I would want a song that I found beautiful with no huge symbolic factor in my life, like this one.

I would totally want this

Not because I’m an emo and that I think everyone hates me and wants me dead, but because death is no laughing matter, and anyone who likes me would probbaly get a kick out of this if it came out of my tombstone lol.

Also, Klaus Sperber, ftw
