Has anyone used coffee to dye their hair?

Asked by tan235 (877points) April 25th, 2011

I’m looking for natural ways to dye your hair?
Not chemist dyes or health food shop dyes, but natural earth dyes.
I’ve heard that coffee works?
I’d like to dye my hair black – it’s brown.
Has anyone used coffee?
Or does anyone know of anything else that works?

I’m not allergic to chemist dyes, I just want to avoid them if I can.

You’ll need black henna to dye your hair black. Coffee is brown.

I was at a “beauty academy” once getting the cut-price haircuts that they offer, and one of the stylists in training had a flaming red ‘do’. One of the other girls asked her how she had colored it, and the response was “with strawberry Jello™ mix”.

That’s cool. How can you dye your hair with strawberry Jello mix?Did she mix it with the hair developer?

Now you’re getting into technical details that I know naught of and wouldn’t admit if I did but it shouldn’t be hard to find out with another question.

The Red #40 in the jello is good for all kinds of things!

Watch with the Jell-O. You’ll have a hell of a time getting that color back out once it’s in.

Be careful with black henna though, do not buy a pre-mixed paste. Buy powder and mix it yourself. All sorts of extremely harmful shit have been found in the pastes as additives. You can google it if you want but seriously, no paste. Just powder.

Try kool-aid packets mixed with just a wee bit of water.
