Are you a realist or an idealist?

Asked by LukeFonFabre (212points) April 27th, 2011

I recently played a great game and that game focuses on realism and idealism. It was interested experience for me, so I’m curious, are you a realist or an idealist and why?

I think a little of both but mostly a realist.

I’m an idealist trapped in a realist’s body! My real life is very pragmatic, and I have to take the “realist” road on most issues in my worklife. But I’m a dreamer at heart, and I really like that both live inside me.

Realist.

often to a fault

A little of both. It can be difficult sometimes to maintain a balance between the two, to try to be a realist without completely surrendering into total cynicism and apathy, apathy because you have decided that things are the way they are and no one can change them, so why bother, why care?

I too combine both in one person. I am mostly a realist with idealistic tendencies.

Unfortunately, even though I was an idealist in college (with the nickname Pollyanna) I find myself becoming more of a realist as I’m getting older. I’m fighting that, though- hopefully Pollyanna’s alive and will remain so!

I am an idealist that stays grounded in that which is real.
They call those people Objectivists. ;)

You can’t be either/or. Everyone is a little of both.

I am both in amounts that resort to stalemate.

Internally, I’m an idealist. Externally, I’m a realist.
