If your question (asked late at night) was then pushed to editing for something like four hours (because one does have to sleep), is it okay to repost it so that it is not now buried in older questions?

Asked by yankeetooter (9651points) May 1st, 2011

Normally I get lots of feedback on my questions, but I feel like it was buried by being pulled for editing overnight, and then when I pushed it to social, it was further (Fluther?) buried because it was placed under a number of other questions that had already been addressed? What is one supposed to do when that happens?

Ask Auggie.

You shouldn’t re-ask it (at least not right away), because then it would be considered a duplicate question. If you’re worried that it might not get seen, you might want to abandon it rather than editing it. That way, you can ask it again in a day or two.

Ok-thanks! How does one abandon a question, anyway? Drive it out into Fluther country, leave it by the side of the road, and give it two days food and water? But seriously…?

Haha, bury it in the sand!

Actually, when we return a question to you for editing, we give you two choices. You can either edit it or abandon it. You can’t abandon it once it’s posted (or re-posted), though.

@augustlan :( Too late, I already reposted it in Social, hence the dilemma…

Can I rephrase it (it wasn’t the best worded question anyway)?

You can, but you should still wait a day or two (so it doesn’t get removed as a dup).

@augustlan If @yankeetooter wanted you to, could you return it for editing again so she(?) could abandon it and start from scratch?

The site doesn’t really move that fast. Everything posted within the last 24 hours is on the frontpage. It takes about two minutes to read every question listed in the four subsections. I wouldn’t worry about it being seen.

I don’t need to re-post my question…it no longer applies…
