When do you usually cry?

Asked by mazingerz88 (28796points) May 2nd, 2011

Is it during moments of sadness or happiness that you usually cry? Or you very rarely do it because you are afraid it might be perceived as a sign of weakness? Do you then hide but does it anyway?

I’m an emotional basketcase a good deal of the time… I cry when I’m sad, I cry when I’m happy and I cry when I’m really pissed off.

When I’m stressed and frustrated with life.

Right now, actually.

I cry a lot. Happy, sad, angry, and just about any time in between. I’ll cry while reading books and watching movies. And right now, with being pregnant, I cry even more than usual and sometimes for no real reason at all.

When I’m angry. When something is out of my control and in the hands of someone I consider incompetent and I can’t do shit about it. Right before I retaliate and they wish they never crossed paths with me. When during that retaliation I use my tears to manipulate the situation, among other things.

Define cry.

My eyes get kind of wet and I get all choked up when I see something really happy happening or when I am empathizing with someone I care a lot for, who is having a pretty hard time.

I’ve also been known to cry pretty much the whole thing when someone I really love is misunderstanding me or seems to be in danger of abandoning me.

But I’d never cry in front of a man, and if anyone asks, I didn’t say this. Period.

I cry when I’m feeling immensly happy, which isn’t a lot. Even then, it’s just tears rolling down my face, not full on sobbing.
I also cry when someone succeeds in very deeply hurting me, which I try to avoid at all costs.
Oh, and I don’t usually cry whilst watching movies, but this made me cry my eyes out till they got so itchy I had to go to the bathroom to wash my face.

@KatetheGreat wish I could send you a magic carpet so you can magically fly away anywhere to relieve yourself of stress that is if you are not afraid of heights

@mazingerz88 Aww. I wish I had one. It’d be such a relief!

I usually do it while watching a movie. I can’t believe I cried 6 or 7 times watching this Japanese film called “Departures” I highly recommend it to film lovers out there

I rarely cry in front of others, but when I’m by myself it happens all of the time. I cry when I watch movies, when I listen to sad music. I’ve cried when I was really happy about something. Sometimes when I’m really overwhelmed and conflicted. I tend to over-think and over-analyze things a lot, sometimes it’ll bring me to tears. And when I talk about my dad.

Actually moments of happiness! Life’s milestones are biggies for me.

A sad movie will never fail to make me tear up, as well as a sad book, though I rarely (if ever) actually cry during them. Other than that, when I’m extremely angry usually, or overwhelmed by a situation. Rarely (if ever) do I cry in a happy situation though, I have no idea why.

I rarely cry. I don’t think it’s a sign of weakness, if anything, I think it shows strength more, but I just can’t do it. Instead, when I’m sad, I tend to just reflect on everything more than usual. Whenever I feel like crying, I embrace it wholeheartedly, but that’s a rare occurrence. Solitude just suits my depression better.

When I feel overwhelmed and helpless.

Cry being tears coming out of your eyes from emotions, never anymore. The last time I cried was last January (2009) when my grandmother died. I cry a lot though from my contacts; I can make myself cry with them on, and I sometimes do by accident. There’s sometimes tears on my face without me realizing it and people are like “What’s wrong?” and I’m like “Oh sorry I cried by accident Anyone else get a little teary-eyed when they see someone else’s eyes teary? Or is it just me?

If I’ve been feeling down for a while, I usually cry when it reaches its peak. I dunno, I’ve cried over stupid things, things that should make me happy. I’ve cried over the thought of not having people (family, friends, etc.) in my life anymore…

When I’ve once again failed to connect with someone I like…as in right about now…

Porifera's avatar

I rarely cry. But the few times I do, I cry when I see or even think of animal abuse, that really kills me. I can’t even stand the thought.
I also cry with certain movies like Schindler’s List or The Remains of the Day when Stevens (Anthony Hopkins) meets with Miss Kenton (Emma Thompson) for the last time and she gets on the bus and waves good bye to him…so sad :’(

mazingerz88's avatar

@Porifera Gotcha on Remains but why didn’t he do anything before?!

yankeetooter's avatar

That’s what we all wanted to know who watched that movie, @mazingerz88.

@mazingerz88 I know. It’s so frustrating you want to kick him in the butt, slap him and throw a bucket of water at him, but none would work…

I cry when I someone I love dies or is sick. One of my friends is very sick right now and I only have to think of her and I get tears in my eyes.

I might cry if I feel frustrated or hurt and I don’t know what to do. Usually only in a private place though while I am say with my husband and explaining to him.

I cry if one of my children or my husband is in trouble and I can’t help them.

I get tears in my eyes when I hear ambulances. I know that is odd but it always makes me think there is someone in trouble. My husband thinks I am a fair dinkum nutter for crying when I hear a siren!

I cry when I watch my children do something wonderful like play in the school band, get their high school certificate. It just touches me to see them doing well and achieving their goals.

I cry when I watch sad movies.

I cry when I am incredibly happy too.

It sounds like I wander around blubbering all the time. I don’t. I am actually a very happy person, but I also cry at times too. I think I am just fairly emotional.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I think I should cry right now, but I think I’ll just stew for a few more days before I let it go….and…it will hit me unexpectedly, like when I’m in a fast food line and have to snap out of it right quick.

yankeetooter's avatar

If I’m upset/sad/depressed about something, I can usually get through my day. But the moment someone comes up and asks if I’m okay, or what’s the matter, that’s when I am most likely to start crying. Really, a better way to cheer me up is just to act goofy and make me laugh…

Also, if I see someone else crying (for a genuine reason), that’s likely to make me at least tear up. If I was an old Star Trek episode, I’d be “The Empath”.
