Any suggestions or ideas on how to create a cooking Blog/Website?

Asked by Porifera (3069points) May 7th, 2011

I want to create a cooking blog for my mother’s recipes. I usually use Blogger—although it seems to me that Wordpress is more versatile.
I have several questions:
Do you think WP is better than Blogger? Do you know of any other free blog host that you can recommend? Should I open a blog for each category (soups, salads, etc.) and then link them to a master blog or you have a better suggestion (pages or just post them as a regular post? Do the posts organize themselves into categories according to their labels? Or should I create a website instead—except that I don’t know how to go about that either.
Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I’d use WP because they have nice clean templates to work from.

This food/cooking site site knocks me out. It’s very high quality. You should see how that one is constructed. Your browser should have a “page source” function to look at its HTML. In Firefox, that’s under the view tab at the top.

@aprilsimnel GA and I’m bookmarking that site, there’s a recipe for Limoncello Maccaroon’s on there that I must try. A great site..thanks.;)

@aprilsimnel That site is really nice. I did manage to find the page sourse but it is in HTML and I don’t know how to read or interpret that language. Also, it seems that is a website and not a blog. I need something easier to follow.

There’s a lot that you can do with blogspot.com. When you create tags for each recipe, it will sort them by the tag, so there’s no need for a separate blog for each category.

@BarnacleBill thank you very much. That answers my question perfectly! I now know what to do. I will post my recipes as a normal post and tag them according to the category that I want them to be in. Then, insted of adding an archive list by date I will set it by tag or label. Yes, I think I got it right now.
