Can I use a red onion if the onion type is not specified?

Shrimp risotto, calls for ¾c onion. I have part of a red onion that needs using. Can I toss it in?

Sure. It will just give your dish more color and maybe a little more taste.

No one will notice the difference.

If you have any left over, I will be there in 30 minutes to pick it up. jp

Not only can you do that, you should do that. Mmmm!

Yes if you don’t mind a stronger onion flavor and the possibilty of a darker colored dish.

As the Wiser lady said, red onions will put much more of a strong onion-y flavor to your dish.

If you don’t want too much of the onion flavor, start with half or one third of the onion and taste before adding any more.

You guys were completely right. This might be the best thing I’ve ever made. I love myself. It’s criminal that I’m single.

I love red onions, and will use them in just about anything. Yum.
