How potentially powerful is a majority share email client?

Asked by Ltryptophan (12091points) May 18th, 2011

I don’t even like typing innovative search terms into google.

The thought occurs to me however, while typing a very important email that has some relatively minor economic importance, that a company that can see into every single email can have nearly unimaginable economic power due to the content of those emails.

So, is that illegal? Is eavesdropping on emails absolutely forbidden?

Encrypt your email. All of it, all the time.

Not forbidden, Gmail displays unobtrusive text ads based on the content of your email (but they will soon start including pictures which kind of bums me out),

Its one of the reasons they make a gazillion dollars.
