How do I become a DJ? How do I begin remixing songs?

Asked by JonnyCeltics (2721points) April 24th, 2008

I have long thought I have an ear for music and I would like to pursue it, either professionally or as a hobby, and absolutely seriously. Thoughts?

Hey johnny, I found this link that gives you some pretty good information:

Me and my little brother bought some cheap Turn Tables and mixer, and started playing around with records. I watched a lot of Youtube vids on how to Dj, Beat Match, Scratch. The best thing to do is to get some information and practice, practice, practice.

Remember, 30 Minutes of Practicing is better than 4 hours of reading how to

There’s also a lot of good information on the DJ Forums:

Good Luck!

Worth mentioning that a DJ mixes records together while a producer creates their own or remixes other people’s tracks. They are quite different skills. These days some DJ mixing software can twist up music to the point that it’s almost a new track though. i.e. Almost like DJ’ing and remixing at the same time!

You can ask for tips and suggestions from a DJ friend, if you’re lucky to have one. You need to have a decent DJ equipment to get you started. As a beginner DJ, you may want to consider taking a look at DJ system packages. Individual DJ equipment are expensive. A DJ set will get you off a good start at a lower start-up cost.
