Planning on going to pick some strawberries and wondering if snakes like strawberries? If so, I need to take some protection.

I don’t think they like strawberry plants themselves, but if rodents are attracted to the strawberries, this will draw snakes.

I live on the only island in the world that does not have snakes (other than Ireland, I think they have snakes) . I grew up here in the middle of the Pacific. I have no idea. I lived on the mainland but just avoided snakes in general. I did try to grow stawberries once but rats got to them.

This is a good read – guess you aren’t the first one to ask the question!

A lot of people put down black plastic as a mulch and to warm the soil in the spring. Snakes like it because it makes for a warm dry environment, plus slugs, mice, etc come to the plants. I always had snakes under the mulch and was glad to have them. Great free pest control.

Just walk loudly. The snakes should move away from you.

I would be very careful

Snakes only go for living things that send off heat energy. That’s how they find their prey. Strawberries don’t send of heat energy so a snake ( no matter how hungry ) would never even recognize a strawberry as potential food.
Worry more about bugs and rodents.
