What is the first decade of the current millennium called?

Asked by nikkiduq (551points) May 21st, 2011

So there were the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and so on. I was wondering what the first decade of our current millennium is called. I googled it but the answers are unsatisfactory.

I think of them as the aughts.

They’re referred to as the aughts, but I can’t stand that term. Don’t know what else to call it, though.

I replied:

“It’s the noughties. Eighties, Nineties, Noughties.”

In the UK we seem to settle on the “Noughties”.

Noughties sound better than Aughts. Thanks for your inputs guys. :)

But then, what would we call the second decade of the current millennium?

I personally call it “The Lost Decade”. Good riddance!

@nikkiduq “The Tennies” for me.
