How can I bake some brownies without an oven?

Asked by MyNewtBoobs (19059points) May 23rd, 2011

Ok, so my oven’s busted (turns out, it’s probably a bad igniter). Unfortunately, I made a brownie mix right before finding this out. Is there any way I can bake this mix (Ghirardelli mix plus oil, water, and an egg) without an oven? Perhaps something involving my stove, fireplace, or microwave, either as a whole or per individual brownie? I’m kinda dying to eat these suckers already!

Here if you are determined.

Yeah, you can microwave in 8×8 or 9×9 glass pan. About 7–11 minutes but keep an eye on it and check it at 6 minutes. They go tough and overcook quickly.

Woo! Thanks, you guys!

Do you have a gas grill or BBQ? Close the top with a temperature gauge and cook it.

I do this cake in a mug recipe often in the microwave and it works just fine. One thing though, It’s better to take it out a little underdone because it will keep cooking as it stands.

Edit: I totally forgot to make my point which was, if you don’t have a glass baking pan, you can fill a coffee mug ⅔ full with the batter and try 2–4 minutes.

Great question and what fluther is all about. Thanks for the cake in the mug recipe @Blueroses – I have to try it sometime. I love stuff like that.

@zen It’s a little like magic! I’m always amazed at how well it comes out. My favorite is to replace the water with lemon juice but you can also add cocoa powder and push a Hershey’s Kiss or 2 into the center of the batter for an instant chocolate Lava Cake. :)

How about a cup of cocoa and several Hershey’s Kisses to wash it down? Save the middle man?
