What is the silliest idea you've seen in the public arena lately (not including the world ending nonsense)

Asked by wundayatta (58722points) May 24th, 2011

The whole thing about the end of the world and the rapture and all that nonsense is an example of what I mean. It’s stuff that somehow gets noticed by the public and suddenly it goes viral.

So what are the silly things you’ve noticed? What was it about them, do you think, that made the public take notice? In other words, why did they go viral?

What, if anything, do these viral sillinesses tell us about the character of the people?

The UK governments lastes NHS reforms (which can be summed up as – give GP’s all the money and hope they sort the mess out).

Newt Gingrich. Demonstrates how egotism supersedes sensibility and blinds a person to reality.

Locally, it would be silly if it wasn’t costing taxpayers a lot of money. Our new governor has ordered all unnecessary cell phones to be removed from government offices. I haven’t seen any mention of contracts that have cancellation fees, but I bet they will cost more than keeping the phones would, not to mention now they will have install land lines and pay exorbitant long distance rates.

Donald Trump- actually the entire Republican Party as they jockey to find a presidential candidate to beat Obama in the next US Presidential election.

Casey Anthony saying that her dad abused her, and that her daughter drowned in the family pool because her mom left the lid off, and that her dad was the one that hid the little girl’s body. WHAT?? Well, I guess it was the only story she could come up with that would make herself completely innocent and uninvolved.
