PowerPoint add-on's to add sizzle to a presentation?

Asked by metadog (378points) May 25th, 2011

Hi! I have been tasked with taking our company’s main PowerPoint presentation into the 21st century (it was created in the 16th). One of the things that appeals to me is a non-linear approach. Create a main jump page that the sales person can jump to any page (topic) just by clicking a “hot spot” or miniaturized slide. I have also seen where you can zoom in on a slide. Pretty cool. I have looked at “Prezi” and, while impressed, don’t like the fee based structure or that I am tied to the internet. I have also played with “pptPlex” and like that too, but it is pretty raw. “Adobe Ovation” also looks pretty awesome.

Can you make any suggestions? Is there a cool PPT add on that would work well, or maybe some other software solution? I can’t rely on an internet connection for an effective solution, so I need software ON a PC.

Thanks!

Keep in mind that it’s not about the Power Point, it’s about the speaker

And I’m not being glib. I give many lecture by powerpoint and honestly, the special effects are just distracting.

I couldn’t agree more, but when you are a part of a long line of presenters for a particular piece of business, and everyone has the same long linear presentation, something outside the box stands out.

@metadog Yeah, I hear you. Some of my powerpoints I use hyperlinks to videos, but that’s about as fancy as I get.

What I am looking to do is create a non-linear, immersive experience for both the presenter AND the audience. Also allowing the presenter the ability to “jump around” as part of a more organic exchange. I know it can be done… I just need to find the right tools. Then train our sales staff on how to do it… maybe the bigger challenge.

I’ve seen some training courses on stuff like that. You are correct in that it’s a skill. I don’t think you’re going to get any answers on Fluther, unfortunately. If you do find some good tutorials, though, please respond again to this thread as I’d be interested.

Don’t forget outsource to experienced designers:

You won’t struggle for a week where a PowerPoint Expert could have it redesigned in an hour.
