Can you help me find some positive, upbeat contemporary songs?

Asked by DarlingRhadamanthus (11273points) May 29th, 2011

I am trying to put together some music tracks of contemporary (as much as I like “Don’t Worry, Get Happy”, that’s not what I am looking for) music to give to a young high school girl going through a hard time. I was thinking of songs that are really positive (like Katy Perry’s “Firework”, for example) and upbeat. I was looking especially for songs that inspire.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks, everyone!

Unwritten by Natasha Beddingfield. It’s a shame that a shampoo company uses this one for its ads.
Golden by Jill Scott It’s a shame she’s not more famous.

“Brand New Day”—Joshua Radin
“Me and You”—She & Him
“Hope Child”—Free Energy
“Pure Imagination”—Gene Wilder or the Maroon 5 cover (if you think she’d like something more modern)
“Silver Lining”—Danyew
“Our Lives”—The Calling

Also, if she likes “Glee”, they have lots of good uplifting songs, like their cover of “Don’t Stop Believin’”.

@lonelydragon OMG! I wish I could give you more GA’s for the Gene Wilder version of “Pure Imagination”! That is such a wonderful song. I’ve never heard the Maroon 5 version, but I’ll be checking out i-tunes any minute to find it. : )

Usually I go to stereomood.com and just tap in whatever mood I’m feeling! Great playlists they have there. :)
