To all violinists out there, can you clean your strings?

Asked by blueberry_kid (5957points) June 1st, 2011

I have had my violin for about 4 years. I am now noticing that there is a boatload of rosin on the strings. Is there any way to clean it off?

Yes, you can. Here is how.

If I get a build up of rosin on my strings, I carefully use some perfume. You’ve got to be careful not to get it on any other part of your instrument though! I have a small free sample I dab onto a cloth, and then wipe along each string.

I know one should use a polishing cloth on it after each time, but I hate the sound it makes – like fingernails on a blackboard!
