They have requested me to have a no ultrasound and I’m worried. Should I be?

That just happened to me too and I will go when I get around to it.
In fact,it has happened every single time I have had a mammogram and it always has been benign. They have done in office procedures and have surgically removed a small lump.I am personally very sick and tired of doctors that try to scare me into gaving tests done.
Having said all that, you must do what is right for you. There is no point in worrying about results of a test you haven’t had yet.Go get it done to put your mind at ease if that’s what it takes.Do what is best for you.Good luck.
End rant.

The purpose of the mammogram is to try to identify cancer at the earliest stage possible. Some cancers are obvious on a mammogram, while other very tiny concerning features are associated perhaps with a lump but not an obvious cancer. However, since the whole point is to find cancers early, if a spot is found on the mammogram, then the next step is almost always a follow-up ultrasound ± biopsy.

It’s happened to me several times. The vast majority of time, it’s absolutely nothing. I can look up some statistics if you want.

This happened to me. The doctor wasn’t sure if there was something there after I had the mammogram. The ultra sound found a very hard to see and impossible to feel unless you knew exactly where it was according to the ultrasound test. I had a lumpectomy and the cancer was so new it hadn’t spread to lymph nodes. I had radiation therapy, but not chemo. That was almost 6 years ago. I felt very lucky they found it that early. Worry? Not necessarily. An opportunity to catch a cancer early? Definitely. Go get the test. It’s foolish not to.

Here’s a quick summary of the stats:

” It helps to know these approximate statistics: of every 1,000 U.S. women who are screened, about 7% (70) will be called back for a diagnostic session (although some studies estimate the number closer to 10%–15%). About 10 of these individuals will be referred for a biopsy; the remaining 60 are found to be of benign cause. Of the 10 referred for biopsy, about 3.5 will have a cancer and 6.5 will not. Of the 3.5 who have cancer, about 2 have a low stage cancer that will be essentially cured after treatment. ”

Do not be concerned, this happens all of the time. Your breasts are likely very dense, and the mammogram is almost a waste. I would not even say they found something, and need a closer look, it is more likely they can’t see anything and want an ultrasound to try and see more just in case there might be something missed by the mammogram. Don’t sweat it for a second.

Let us know everything is ok.

Not always. It’s just a closer look. I get called back just about every time.
