If I asked “Alaska?” as a fluther question, and offered no supporting details, what would you answer?

Asked by wundayatta (58722points) June 13th, 2011

Sometimes I wonder what kind of weirdness lies in other people’s heads. Seems to me that there are some questions that offer people a chance to show off their quirkiness. Here’s your chance.

CaptainHarley's avatar

When I think of Alaska, I think “last American frontier.”

CaptainHarley's avatar

@JLeslie

There are no “frontiers” anywhere else.

JLeslie's avatar

@CaptainHarley But, do you mean it still has a lot to explore? Or, that it is the 49th state? Or, that we haven’t overpopulated and turned into another American state with chain restaurants and Walmarts (maybe walmart is there?). Or, just that it is still fairly rural and wild, untouched.

Axemusica's avatar

@JLeslie there’s a Wal*Mart, Wellsfargo, Outback Steakhouse, Hilton, Gap, Hot Topic…. Anchorage is just like any other American town just smaller. Although, what I’m sure what @CaptainHarley means is just that. Alaska is the last American Frontier. There’s much of the state that has still yet to be discovered. Plus It’s filled with wilderness. :)

The wild frontier.

I live in Alaska. And guess what!?!?! It’s like eighty degrees today.
And I don’t have a pet moose. Or an igloo. Or even a Penguin. (Although, that would be cool)

No, tell her.

MilkyWay's avatar

Love that ^

JLeslie's avatar

@Axemusica Not surprised. I guess I don’t think of Alaska as much different than other states that have a lot of undeveloped land. Although, I would expect Alaska to have some uniqueness considering it’s location, native population, local customs. I actually watch a lot of Sarah Palin’s show, made me more interested in the state.

I’m not sure if you knew this @Stinley, but Northern Exposure was actually filmed in Washington.

Juneau

My best friend in high school and I used to have a running joke where one would say “You know??” (only in a way that sounded like Juneau) and the other one would say “Alaska!!”. Dumb, I know.
