Hugs and kisses, xoxoxo. Which the are hugs and which the are kisses?

I feel like x=kiss and o=hug. What do you think?

I always felt x was kiss, and o was hug, but it’s actually the opposite.
Which makes sense, since it is never oxox. X is always first. Hugs and kisses.

Yes, X for kiss which makes “xo” a ‘kiss and a hug’.

x for kisses since it looks like two people giving each other a little peck and o for hugs since it looks like this is what my arms have to go around ya fatty.

The use of “x” to signify a kiss dates back to as early as 1765 .

I’ve always used x’s for kisses, as long as I can remember. I only encountered o’s as hugs once I got online.
