What can cause swelling of neck vertebrae?

Asked by tan235 (877points) June 15th, 2011

I woke this morning with a sore neck vertebrae, I know it sounds weird but now I think it’s swollen, its like the third down and it feels massive, it’s the one before you get to your ‘back’, it sits on your shoulders so to speak.
I’m worried it’s a tumor!
Anyone know what can cause this?
I am on my computer all the time… help!

Stress can cause the discs between the vertebrae to swell. The vertebrae are bones, they may crack or break, but they generally do not swell. Sitting in front of a computer & using a keyboard for long periods of time is stressful to your neck & shoulders. You should reduce the amount of time you spend on the computer & do something else. In the meantime, try a hot shower to alleviate the pain you are feeling & take a couple of ibuprofen tablets (or other anti-inflamatory medication).
