What is silly for you - and when is silliness cool?

Asked by _zen_ (7857points) June 17th, 2011

Can you give examples?

Has something that once seemed ridiculous become trendy, cool artsy or funny?

For me, everything is silly and silliness is always cool.

Silliness is cool, as long as it is harmless, at least in my book. One example of a trend is The Chinese Fire Drill. An example of artsy is Sidewalk Chalk Artwork.

The SO and I have a tendency to get silly. Once we spent a week strategically replacing three decorative wooden fish around the bathroom while his parents were staying with us. One day I took them off their shelf and put them in another location. The next time I went in, they had been moved to another location. Then we got really creative. At the end of the week, we had a good laugh about it and asked his parents if they had noticed. The response was, “Er, yes we did.”

Lol! I like that @Pied_Pfeffer. I can be incredibly silly. Life should be fun and it isn’t fun if we take ourselves too seriously. Bring on the silliness I say. As an example, I have been known to spontaneously imitate whale calls in public (while stood under a huge model whale). My kids were horrified which made it all the more fun for me.

Is silliness cool? Not sure. It can be (take Monty Python) but really I don’t care if it isn’t or it is. It makes me laugh so I really don’t care whether it’s cool or not. I love silly people.

The only addition I would make here, is that there are times to be silly and times to be serious. Even the silliest person should know when to keep it under wraps.

Count me in on silliness! I am very light hearted humorous type 90% of the time. Rarely do I get in a funky mood. I delight in silliness, shooting the neighbors sheep with my squirt guns from the hot tub, sculpting silly faces with silly expressions, making up jokes, often about myself and life ( I live in a Farside cartoon ). At my little river store last week my boss found a Mr. Potato Head set and we made a real Mr. Potato Head with a real Potato and set it on the counter. I was joking about time lapse photography, watching Mr. Potato Head age to a 90 year old man before he turned into a glass of Vodka. lol

I have a Gary Larsen type humor anyway, inane, quirky and, well, I guess that’s why he is one of my idols. That guy is brilliant! Anytime I feel slightly down all I have to do is read some of his cartoons, I’ll be laughing out loud all by myself.

@Coloma I’m envious that you have sheep you can shoot with squirt guns. I hope they like it.

Generally, people tell me that I am silly, but no one ever tells me I’m cool.

If the orange tree were real, I would transport myself into a universe where I could be cool.

Naw…

That universe would collapse in on itself like nobody’s business.
