Are you related to anyone famous?

Asked by KateTheGreat (13640points) June 22nd, 2011

As the question states.

Whether it’s historically famous, red carpet famous, or the hometown hero type famous, post it! No matter how distant it may be, it’s still cool to know. :)

No, but I met a guy who was a voice actor in Thundercats at a Memorial Day BBQ. AMA

In name, don’t know if there are blood ties, but who knows.
I told this only last week to my girlfriend, after three years of being with her and knowing that she is fascinated by him and his work and after twice visiting the museum dedicated to him.
My grandmother’s niece’s name is (was?) van Gogh.

One of my distant relatives was the Poet Laureate of England 3–4 centuries ago.
One of them was killed leading a brigade in Lee’s army at the battle of 7 pines in the War of Northern Aggression.
One played baseball for the Reds and the Red Sox

I’m related to members of the Barker gang. Ma Barker is my great(great-great?)-grandmother.

Betsy Ross, who is credited for making the first American flag.

My dad’s uncle’s aunty (seriously!) was Frances Hodgson Burnett, author of A Little Princess and The Secret Garden…

My father (now deceased) invented the original flip phone…

Alexander Hamilton.

This guy is my great-great-great-great (however many times) uncle.

I’m also apparently related to Pocahontas in some way.

I have had an uncle Attorney General of Arizona and another Attorney General of Ohio. In addition, one relative from Massachusetts moved to Connecticut (religious reasons) and, ultimately became the Governor of Connecticut. The homestead where he had lived in Mass (house built in 1635) became the site of Christ Church, Boston (aka The Old North Church).

I’m related to Daniel Boone and Jesse Chisholm.

Thomas MacDonough is my great great sumthinorother. He’s not so well know now but he kicked ass back in the day. Fightin’ pirates, beatin’ Brits and being a general badass until the consumption got him.

On the other side there’s my great grandmother who also isn’t at all remembered today but she’s still got herself listed on imdb which is pretty cool. She was primarily in theatre though.

Abraham Lincoln and Amanda Mackey Johnson from the top of my head.

Yes. I’ll leave it at that.

My Dad’s cousin was married to Walt Disney’s cousin.
I was married to the brother of a famous author.
My oldest son was locally famous in children’s theater productions.

Not that I know of, but my grandmother swears on her soul that in the early 1700’s, there was someone named Charledème in our family, and he was a pirate. I think she just told me that when I was little as a bedtime story, but even today she still insists.
Maybe just a French sailor who was a bit more hardcore than most.
If that is true though, that’s fucking awesome lol.

redfeather's avatar

Nope. Just modern day bank robbers and criminals. awesome.

faye's avatar

@zen I wish you would be a tad more forthcoming.

Berserker's avatar

@redfeather That IS awesome. :D

Just a little joke. :) In reality, that probably isn’t always too swell.

My dad did fraud the bank for 2000 bucks once. Was taken to prison for ten days, but then he was released…he spent about some years paying that back lol. Maybe we really did have a pirate in the family…

KateTheGreat's avatar

@Symbeline It’d be badass to be related to a pirate.

As for me, I am related to a sort of famous female Russian sniper. She’s the lady in my picture. Can anyone guess who she is? ;)

redfeather's avatar

@Symbeline mine is just a screw up uncle. Got caught because he robbed the same teller twice. BRILLIANT.

Berserker's avatar

@redfeather I heard of a guy in my hood who held up the same store three times in one day…got caught too. Some people, not too bright. :/

On my Dad’s side, I am related to Robert Ford (the assassin of Jesse James).
On my Mom’s side, you will find the Hatfields, they of the feud with the McCoys.

My wife takes the cake, though. Her 2nd cousin is Marilyn Monroe.

YARNLADY's avatar

OH, and my g g grandmother was a famous interpreter for the Choctaw Nation in Washington DC.

I’m not related to anyone nationally or internationally famous, but many of my ancestors were fishermen in a small town in north Norfolk; they also served in the lifeboat service during the 1800s and early 1900s and there is a little museum dedicated to them and their colleagues in the town. So they were locally famous, and for a very awesome reason – saving lives at sea.

ps: I stole my username here from one of those ancestors. I don’t think he would mind.

My mom always said we were related to Tecumseh, the Shawnee war chief.

Of course, she also always said we were related to the Duke of Buckingham because my great grandmother’s maiden name was Buckingham. It wasn’t until I was older that I learned the Duke’s name wasn’t even Buckingham; it’s a place name. I’m pretty sure my mom just made that up.

I also realized as an adult that my mother is a pathological liar, which makes me highly suspicious of the Tecumseh claim.

Kayak8's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate Umm, we may have to give up on the affair as my family too hails from Daniel Boone . . . dang it all . . .

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

@Kayak8 Pffft, long as we ain’t first cuzzins, I don’t care!

sliceswiththings's avatar

Elder William Brewster of the Mayflower was my direct 12-Great Grandfather. Also I’m related to Ben Franklin. Any long lost cousins on Fluther?

KateTheGreat's avatar

@sliceswiththings Hahaha, I just watched this video and it had Ben Franklin in it. Pretty funny stuff. ;)
