NSFW- If you had the perfect opportunity, would you (re)visit psychedelia?

Asked by rOs (3531points) June 24th, 2011

If you’ve never taken shrooms before, this is what they do.

I am not advocating shrooms, some people shouldn’t trip for the same reason some people can’t handle hot sauce. Mushrooms were outlawed in the sixties, and it is easy to be fooled by the propaganda: “Drugs are bad, mmmkay?” Dig this.

Assuming you have the perfect circumstances, would you take them? Would you do it with others or go solo? Would it be for fun, curiosity, learning, or something else? What would you do? Discuss the idea of altering your conscience.

I would do it for out of curiosity. You only live once.

Shrugs Maybe, maybe not. I don’t feel strongly about trying shrooms either way.

Sure. I did it once and it was interesting and I got a laugh out of the trip. More like a few hundred thousand laughs. I would save it for a time where I was not going to make any decisions or be around a bunch of people. Not the kind of thing to experience while contemplating a sink full of dirty dishes.

No. Been there, done that 30–35 years ago. Shrooms, Peyote, LSD, Mescaline, Hawaiian Rosewood seeds, Hash, opium, cocaine….it was the 70’s, however, I do feel pleased that I never had any addiction issues or really bad trips. I still enjoy the occasional happy brownie though, but I am against hardcore drug use/abuse.

I was at a party my first time. Everybody else wanted to stay inside and play beer pong and listen to loud music. I remember taking my shoes off and walking far back into their land toward the forest. I found a nice clearing and just watched the stars dance above me. I remember singing an impromptu song to myself, and the lyrics that came out were profound. Strange as it sounds, it was one of the most peaceful and connected moments of my life.

I did them a couple of times back in the late seventies, early eighties. I enjoyed it, except it made me horny (or was that the pot?) and there was no one to play with me at the time.

I’m not sure I would do it again. I’m not sure I need it. Sometimes I feel like I’m way too close to that world and if I entered it completely, I might not come back. Too risky for me.

I’m really interested in trying them. I’d probably do it with my SO while we were on vacation so we have enough time to come down =)

nope, this life is a great trip even without them

Yes, I plan to do this after this work thing is over in a couple months. I look forward to it. I think it’s important to play around with your neurotransmitters a little bit and understand your own biology. I’m fascinated by the sense that our experience of the world is totally dictated by these little tiny molecules floating around, doing their thing.

I have had sort of negative/unusual reactions to some drugs in the past, so I am a little worried about the prospect of a “bad” trip. But I think with the right contingencies in place it will be ok.

Always! I’m always up to try everything at least once (besides heroin and meth). I’ve been wanting to try them for a long time now but just can’t get my hands on any. Drugs is my weaknness (although never been addicted to any).

I happen to have enjoyed “shrooms” and would definitely enjoy them again in a group of friends, camped out on my favorite beach for a few days.

Nah, I’m past that point in my life. I got it all out of my system, and I thoroughly enjoyed those years of my youth. I’m just over it. Good times, though. Good times.

Nah…reality is freaky enough!

KateTheGreat's avatar

Probably.

I wouldn’t pay to do it, but if someone offered it to me, I’d take it in a heartbeat.

stardust's avatar

Yes, I’d very much like to if the opportunity arises.

All I can advise is be somewhere you are comfortable. I got lost in the mountains once on acid, and, another time I got stuck in a tree house for about 6 hours.
Both were, um..interesting to say the least. The mountain spirits were talking to me, the tree house, I was too wobbly from laughing to get down the ladder again. lol

Yes. I may travel at some point to hopefully see for myself the Elves in the machine or fractal beings often reported by those trying tryptamine-based psychedelics like DMT or N,N-Dimethyltryptamine, or the ayahuasca tea. But for all the overzealous DEA agents and cops reading, I will only do it where it is legal to do.
