How can I make my ipod connect to my computer?

Asked by sliceswiththings (11723points) June 25th, 2011

For the first time ever, my computer won’t acknowledge that my ipod is plugged in, neither in itunes nor on the computer itself. I tried using a different cord, restarting the computer, excessive wiggling of the plugs and blowing on everything, to no avail. Any advice?

(The USB port is fine; my camera cord works)

Does the iPod work if you use it as normal? And what kind of iPod? I had a problem with my iPod touch where it had to charge the battery for a bit before the computer would recognize it.

Try resetting your iPod. That has worked for me in the past.

It’s an iPod nano, purchased in 2007. I’ll try it, @dappled_leaves, thanks!

Well that was easy. Thanks, @dappled_leaves

Glad to hear the problem is resolved. I wanted to add, in case anyone finds this question via Google, that another issue sometimes is the USB port. I have 1 out of 6 that simply stopped recognizing my iPod one day. All the other ports work just fine and the wonky port works great with all other devices.

Moral of the story, try different USB ports, too. :)

Call the Apple Store/company.
