Minecraft players of Fluther: What features would you like to see implemented in Minecraft?

Asked by Thammuz (9277points) June 27th, 2011

In this topic we list the things we’d love to see in minecraft that haven’t been implemented yet in the vanilla version. So feel free to quote specific mods you’d love to see in the finished product. After all, it’s going to happen with the pistons soon enough, it could very well happen with something else.

Once we’re done we could even tweet this to Notch…

I’ll start the thread off:

Easy/already existing in mods:

- Hunger, Thirst and Fatigue system
– Hot air baloons or other flying machines (Possibly coming in the adventure update)
– Rivers, better liquid phiysics
– Actual deep oceans, with possible underwater caves, ruins and the like
– Flood gates
– Better Nether portals implementation. Being able to place more portals in the same area without them crossing over eachother (Maybe by using a particular block for the corners or something)

Harder stuff:
– Ropes, elevators, aerial tramways and grappling hooks (Especially now that notch is implementing underground ravines)
– Live-in transport, like actual ships or bigger trains with actual rooms and stuff like that (It would make sense with the actual oceans thing paired with the need for rest)

- Stability when running on low-end hardware
– Native serverlist commands (i.e. /playerlist or /votekick) Most of these are only attainable using mods.
– UI refinements (Serverlist, perhaps a friend system)
– Steam integration (This isn’t a big one, I’d just love to own minecraft on steam or see how much I play it)
– Account-level achievements/statistics (At the moment these are limited to clientside and don’t carry over to multiple computers.)

I have more, but for the most part, I’d love to just see lots of bugfixes and refinements before adding too many more features.

Update on the 1.8 update

This does not please Thammuz. It does not. Everything’s fine except the NPC villages.

It kills the feeling of being the last survivors whose job is to rebuild infrastructure and comfortable life in the world. It opens the door to all sorts of shitty ideas like money to trade with NPCs.

I know it’s a fallacy but the lack of NPCs is the main reason why minecraft couldn’t become another WoW, in a good sense. Your interactions had to be with players. If you add NPCs you kill that part.

I like your ideas, but the hunger/thirst/fatigue seems like it would subtract from the building aspects of the game. I just don’t think that dying of hunger while building my mansion would make the game more enjoyable, no matter whether or not it’s more realistic. But as for ideas of my own…

-I would like to see teleporters, even though we already have the Nether for quick transport. Teleporters may make transportation a bit too easy, so they would be made of rare materials. Plus, you would need two to make the system work.

I don’t really have that many ideas, but maybe…

-Female player models, in case there are any ladies out there that don’t like the male body
-More growable crops.

That’s what creative mode/peaceful mode are for. If we’re talking survival mode, which is what most people play, and what we play on the server (I noticed your inn, BTW, sweet.) then it only makes sense. Afterall I’ve always had a safe bed near every construction site and i always go around with some food. BTW, i read they are going to implement those needs!

Eh, that’s iffy. Yeah it’s cool to have the option of not going around only by foot, especially if you’re like me and you build at the opposite corners of the earth without noticing the abysmal walking distances, but then it would make the whole “survive the commute” business useless. Besides it’s kinds hard to implement and there woud need to be a system to link two and only two of them. unless you allow to pick a destination.

You can upload your own textures already, and it appears any humanoid would have that model…

-More growable crops.
100% agreed and add stackable food to that.

@Thammuz

Stackable food – That will be a happy day!
