Should I be concerned about frequent mild headaches?

Asked by livelaughlove21 (15724points) June 28th, 2011

Last week, I had a headache on Monday. I didn’t take any meds and just dealt with it until I went to bed and slept it off. I got another one, not as bad, on Tuesday. Again, no medication. On Saturday, I got another one in the morning and I took some Excedrin. It went away quickly and stayed away. Yesterday I had another one in the afternoon and it actually went away after I exercised. Today, it’s back. All of them have been on both sides of my head.

They aren’t very painful, just annoying, and I don’t have any vision problems, nausea, dizziness, or other symptoms that I’ve noticed. I’ve been going through some stress lately, but that’s nothing new. I’ve had headaches before, but not as frequent as these. I don’t know if weather can affect frequency of headaches, but our stormy one day/sweltering heat the next day weather has been a bit bipolar where I live.

I’m wondering if this is any cause for concern and if I should see a doctor for it. I avoid the doctor because I have no insurance, but I have to do what I have to do. I’m wondering if my wisdom teeth coming in could cause this. I don’t feel them coming in, but I’m 21 and I still have them so…just a thought.

Any insight would be appreciated.

ETA: Oh! No caffeine/alcohol withdrawal either. I did wake up with a nigh sweat last night which has never happened, but I don’t know if the two are connected.

If you are not a headachy person, and this is new, then you should be seen by a doctor.

If you keep a diary of when you get the headaches and what you are doing, eating etc… it might help you identify a cause.

If the sensations of discomfort are just over and just behind your eyes, it could be a sinus headache, annoying but responsive to aspirin or Tylenol. I get mild ones in humid and damp weather, such as today.

Also a hot shower to drain sinuses or a few spritzes of a saline nasal spray will help.

When’s the last time you had a physical with a general practitioner where they took your blood pressure and a blood work panel?

My SO was under 35 when he started having daily headaches and night sweats- turns out he had developed high blood pressure. Losing weight helped drastically followed by less alcohol, less smoking.

It wouldn’t hurt to see a doctor about this, although it may not mean anything.

I also vote for checking with your doctor but also make sure that you are not dehydrated.

@Neizvestnaya I’m not overweight, a smoker, or a drinker. I know high blood pressure is still possible, but I checked it already and it was normal. Thanks for the response though.

I’m pretty sure it’s being caused by my wisdom teeth. My jaw felt really tight on Saturday and when I feel back there it kind of feels hard like teeth are trying to break through. There’s not enough room for them, so that could be what’s causing the headaches. I’ll need to get them cut out I think…in other words, $$$. I’m going to get some free x-rays at my dentist to see if that’s what it is before I make an appointment with an oral surgeon.

Because you have mentioned your teeth, I am thinking that maybe it could be that you are clenching your jaw and grinding your teeth. Lots of people do this unconsiously and it can make your teeth ache and your head hurt. Ask your dentist if there are any signs of this
