A newer version of Era .

The fake polyphonic choral vocals in the first 2 songs makes me want to grab the nearest cordless drill and give myself a lobotomy.

Equus is a playful romp and Mermaids gets a pass because of Keira Knightley! WOOF! ;)

I’m a huge choir geek and I’m in love with Eric Whitacre.

I’ve sang in both of his virtual choirs and 3 normal choirs with him directing them. He’s very enthusiastic about his music and his pieces are so much fun to sing. There are some instances where his music is not very original and quite simple. Other than that, I love him to death! :)

Glad you posted this question. I’m pretty much in love with Whitacre. Some call me a Whit-a-crazy.

@Cruiser, WHAT? polyphonic tones are all over classical music? And they aren’t fake, it’s a live choir. I just think the dissonance in the first two songs are throwing you off. Do you not like choral music in general or just not his?

@KateTheGreat, what are some of your favorite songs by him?

@jdogg The 5 Hebrew Love Songs, She Weeps Over Rahoon, The Seal Lullaby, With a Lily in Your Hand, and When David Heard are some of my favorites.

My favorite ones to sing are definitely Sleep, She Weeps Over Rahoon, and When David Heard. I’ve had the opportunity of working with him on those songs and it was a powerful experience.

you are so lucky, I want to meet him very badly, but with work it’s nearly impossible :( my favorites are When David Heard, Water Night, and Her Sacred Spirit Soars

@jdogg It’s the experience of a lifetime. I suggest that you participate in the next Virtual Choir. He’s honestly one of the nicest people ever. Not snobby at all.

I thoroughly enjoy his music and have sung some of it with my choir and a smaller group. I’m singing 5 Hebrew Love Songs and the first three Animal Crackers (very cleverly written for Ogden Nash poems) this weekend with the latter. We’ve also done his Cloudburst, and Lux Arumque, It’s great stuff to sing or listen to.
