Help me with an issue with my chocolate cake?

Asked by Facade (22937points) June 30th, 2011

I’m making this cake, and the directions say to melt butter, add chocolate powder and water, and let that come to a boil and stay there for 30 seconds. Then that mixture is added to the flour.
I think I may have let the chocolate boil for too long, and it looks separated from the butter. Did I mess up my cake or will it be fine?

Not sure what you mean by “separated”... does it really not come together when you whisk it? Does it smell or taste burned at all?

It smells a little bit burned, but the whole thing is in the oven now, so we’ll see!

Anxiously awaiting cake, fork in hand.

Did it look like cake batter when you added the other ingredients? If so, you’re probably okay. I assume there were other ingredients, so once it was together I think you’ll be fine.

@tedibear Yea, it did. I took a lick, and it tasted fine too.

Well? Is it out yet??? How is it?

It’s got at least an hour before it’s out of the oven and ready to eat. Don’t worry, I’ll update you =)
