Are you hooked on the Angry Birds game?

Asked by rooeytoo (26981points) July 3rd, 2011

I find myself playing it on my iPhone whenever I have a minute to spare. Actually sometimes making minutes just so I can play a little longer.

Are you playing it on your smart phone and do you love it???

Do you have any other favorite games that I should be playing as well?

I don’t know if you can play it on a smartphone, but the first and second Tentacle Wars flash games were a lot of fun. The controls are entirely mouse based, so I think you’d be able play it via touchscreen.

Thanks, I’ll have a hunt for it in the app store!

I have so far resisted the pissed-off avians, I am told I will not be able to for long… I just got an iPhone so I’ll be watching this Q. ;-)

@JilltheTooth omg, it is so addictive! I can’t stop playing the silly game, and it is very silly, hehehe!

I’m watching two other members my household spend hours doing it. they both say “Just one more level” over and over. What a waste! I have intentionally not lobbed even one bird. And I’m proud of it!
If I am going to waste time, I’ll catch up on emails or diddle on Fluther where there’s chance of learning something and having a bit of social contact.

Too true @worriedguy, that is exactly what I used to say, until I started playing it, hehehe!

I am a success oriented guy. I cannot leave the basketball court without getting the last shot in. I can’t leave the gun range without breaking my last clay. I did not watch one episode of 24 because I was not going to sit through 24 hours of any TV show. If I started playing that game I would have to finish it and I refuse to devote that much time to that activity.
I’d much rather: clean my work bench, sleep, have sex, mow the lawn, Geocache, cuddle, feed the birds, talk on the phone, email friends, Fluther, get my motorcycle ready for summer, read the newspaper,... live life!
I intend to be the only person on the planet who has not tried it.

KatawaGrey just told me about a game where you breed frogs. I think that’s more up my alley…XP

@JilltheTooth – well hell, what is the name, I can be addicted to more than one thing at a time!!!

I love it. The kids and I take turns playing on my phone, and I love that about it.

I also tend to get “lost” while playing it in the bathtub. When the water starts to freeze me out I know that I’ve been playing too long.

I love that game. I think the sounds the pigs make is what does it for me.

Clearly, I am outnumbered.

You and me, @worriedguy , the last holdouts for sanity in a WORLD GONE MAD!!!! or some birds gone mad???

JilltheTooth's avatar

@rooeytoo : I think it’s Pocket Frogs.

Meh, doesn’t look interesting to me. I’m probably not in the target audience, anyway. Plus I was turned off by an angry birds thread where the OP said something like “If you don’t play this game, you don’t know what fun is!”.

Joker94's avatar

I was hooked when I first got it, but after I had way too much difficulty beating a level and did a massive ragequit.

TexasDude's avatar

I was until I demolished almost every level. I have three stars on all but the most rage-inducing, practically impossible levels.

I still play it compulsively. And I’m waiting for updates.

rooeytoo's avatar

I got that flying eagle thingy and use that before the rage sets in! So far it has destroyed everything. I get furious when I accidentally waste a bird. You know I pull the slingshot back but my finger slips or something and it just drops and plops! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, that really makes me crazy!!!

JilltheTooth's avatar

^ ^ ^ That statement right there is why I don’t dare start. People addicted to Angry Birds say stuff like that. And it’s a little weird when they do.

rooeytoo's avatar

@JilltheTooth – well I am a little weird, hehehe, so talking that way is nothing out of the ordinary for me!

And I agree with @mazingerz88, Oingrk, ngoirk, wheeeee, ughaaa, zroinkgx, wheeeeeehh…!

reijinni's avatar

Hadn’t played the game.

Prosb's avatar

I just tried playing it. It’s nothing special/interesting. I’ve played plenty of flash games that were more addictive with the same concept: Shoot/Throw something to knock down targets. I’m not too sure why it’s so popular/addictive to others.

I don’t usually go for any of the video games of any sort but got hooked on Angry Birds when I got my Android tablet about a yeaqr ago (mid-2011).
I have four versions installed (original, Rio, seasons, space) and like them all especially the space version which has some interesting orbital physics included.

Serious technical papers have been written analysing the success of the user interface. My experience of the games jives with the description of “simple yet engaging” user interface, and incrementally more challenging situations to solve.
That “just one more level” feeling is insidious.

rooeytoo's avatar

@dabbler – wow, I asked this question about 155 addictive games ago, hehehe! But thank you for you response and I agree. Right now I am on hooked on 7–11-21 and Aerox and ThinkO. I have an app called AppsGoneFree, I check it everyday to see what sort of new addiction I can get for nothing! I left Angry Birds months ago and haven’t looked back. Check out the ones I mention, they are all crazy making and great fun!

Oh my! That’s just what I need, another delightful time sink !
