General Question

Would you kindly help me locate an mp3 I have been searching for for years?

Asked by TexasDude (25274points) July 6th, 2011

One of my all time favorite bands is a now defunct indie/steampunk group known as Moth!Fight!. They ostensibly broke up a few years ago and pretty much the only evidence that remains of them on the internet is an assemblage of broken links, 404 errors, live youtube videos with abysmal sound quality, and news articles ironically discussing the band’s soon to be found success.

I have all of their songs on vinyl in the form of the only album they ever released, and I’m lucky enough to have one of their songs in mp3 form in my itunes that I swiped from limewire back in 2008 or so. I used to have all of their songs as mp3s, but the rest of them mysteriously vanished from my hard drive and I haven’t been able to find them since.

There is one song of theirs, however, that I am desperately trying to find in digital format so I can listen to it without having to fire up my record player. That song is called Hopscotch Pt. 2. I have scoured the internet in every way I know how trying to find a youtube video I can rip or an mp3 file of the song, but I’ve only been met with broken links. I’m not particularly tech savvy, so I’m hoping that someone out there in the Flutherverse can use their skills to find me an mp3 of this song out there somewhere. Please, dear reader, can you reunite me with one of my favorite songs?

Here’s a video of a live version or part of it. What is the name of the album it was on?

Forgot, they have a facebook page, you might ask there.

I’ll try to find something for ya.

@lillycoyote yep, that’s the song, but the sound quality of that video is really bad (I’ve seen the video before, though I really appreciate you searching it out for me).

The album is self titled and was released in 2007 by Natrix Natrix Records. I’m waiting on some images to upload so I can show you what it looks like.

@KatetheGreat thanks a lot dear.

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard I believe that Moth!Fight! has a new band name now. I’m looking into it.

The guy’s new band is Spells (facebook) (tumblr)... maybe just get in touch and see if they have any cds you could send them $10 for?

Natrix Natrix Records (myspace) (facebook) apparently did the cd originally and might have more as well.

Or their last address is about 20 minutes away, come to Austin and we’ll make a pilgrimage. (source)

@KatetheGreat yeah, Spells. Not the same band though. I’m gonna try and get in contact with Kevin Adickes and see if he would be able to send me some old music, as @funkdaddy suggested. He must be a nice guy, because when I ordered their album from them years ago, they shipped it late, and as an apology, they sent me a second copy plus some handmade greeting cards, a poster, and some buttons.

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard I’d try contacting the bands. They aren’t huge and famous and most bands like this will interact with their fans. I do that to a lot of my favorite bands and they gladly reply. Try asking them.

@KatetheGreat doing it now… wish me luck. This is the first time I’ve listened to Spells, and I really enjoy them.

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard Hopefully you get a reply! I didn’t mind them. They sound pretty good.

Ok, I sent Kevin a facebook message politely and humbly asking if there is any way he can direct me to, or sell me any mp3s of his old music. *fingers crossed. I’ll tell you guys what happens.

I keep seeing @JohnPowell popping in and out of this question…

I would never listen to country music. You’d have to be brain dead.

It’s on Grooveshark.

The band name is misspelled as Mothfight (no exclamation points or separation), and the song is listed as Hopscotch pt. 2. To these ears the audio still sounds terrible.

@Blondesjon that’s Hopscotch. The song I already have. I’m looking for Hopscotch Part 2, which is a different song. Thank you, though.
