What is your definition for an evil genius vs. a genius of evil?

When I think of the differences I think of Ted Kaczynski as being an evil genius while Hitler was a Genius of evil. How do you differentiate the two?

I’ve never heard of genius of evil.

I don’t see a difference, though.

I see it differently, I see Hitler as an evil genius and Jack the Ripper as a genius of evil!

Hypocrisy_Central's avatar

@FutureMemory If you dissect Ted and Hitler you can see they are not of the same clothe.

I meant I didn’t see a difference in the terminology. Both evil and genius are subjective.

@FutureMemory The terminology on the surface seem the same as a great baseball player and a player that plays baseball greatly. Striping it to its naked components it is not quite the same.

I see evil genius is some one who is incredibly intelligent but is not morally good. Whereas someone who is a genius of evil, is not intelligent in all things, only that in which causes suffering or evil to others.

Hitler was a genius. He helped bring Germany out of one of the greatest depressions mankind has ever known and made it a world superpower. However, he did have some truly evil ideas on race relations and invalids.

Jack the Ripper was on the other hand, not very intelligent, since he didn’t even know really how to cut up a human properly, but he was extremely proficient at committing evil acts!

@Schroedes13 Hitler was a genius. I think pulling Germany out of its funk was more due to his charisma then his smarts. I may have missed it but I never thought of Hitler as being a genius, some of the blunders he made managing WWII was comical. If he was Mensa smart he would have had the US and it cronies on the ropes. He had the technology that could have delivered a standing 8 count if not the knock out blow but he squandered them. But when it came to inflicting terror and horror he was quite good at that with his death camps and labor camps, etc. Hitler had much to lend to his popularity instead of his Gray matter IMO.

@Hypocrisy_Central I would agree with some of that. But just because he made mistakes, doesn’t mean he wasn’t a genius. Also, the death camps really didn’t become death camps until he realized he was going to lose the war. That’s why the labour camps were hastily formatted into death camps.

Hitler was neither evil nor a genius. More a jumped up pantry boy with delusions of grandeur who didn’t know his place. The fact is, he was constantly corrected in both his methods & strategy, leaving those in his ranks with military expertise to command with competence.

Schroedes13's avatar

I don’t think he had delusion? He was quite grand! And does anyone really have a place? Humanity is programmed to try and advance themselves as individuals!

@Schroedes13 Good luck praising Hitler around here.

I don’t want to be seen as a Neo-Nazi, but I do believe Hitler was necessary for many great things that happened in the world at the time.

I agree with @Schroedes13. Hitler was a man of great intelligence, and it’s a shame that he had to use his superior intellect to kill so many people. I mean, how could you get so many people to believe everything you say without a great knowledge of social skills? How could you be such a powerful political leader, and leader of what was an extremely deadly military?
It’s a shame that he had to go bad. I categorize him as a genius, but insane, as well.

Be G.W. Bush? I think he had charisma and showed up as Johnny on the spot when Germany really needed someone to hang their hopes on. Not brains, just luck.

@Hypocrisy_Central I think many of the world’s greatest figures had a lot of timing on their side.
