Does a Daddy Long Legs spider have a venomnous bite?

Asked by AstroChuck (37609points) April 29th, 2008 from iPhone

I’d heard years ago that it was a poisonous spider but its mouth was too small to bite anything larger than insects. Urban legend?

Mythbusters checked it out. They are poisonous, but barely even to small flies. Their fangs are to small to penetrate the skin, but if they did the poison wouldn’t do anything to you.

Thanks to all. Guess that answers that. Also, thanks for not criticizing my misspelling of “venomous”.

Also, if you ever get one in your bathtub or something, you can pinch one of the legs at the joint, and all the other legs splay out and freeze, and you can carry it outside like a Popsicle… I grew up in the country and had them in the tub almost every day

I learned the other day that it is the same thing with garter snakes. They have poison too but it is week and they don’t really have the right fangs to inject it.
