Can you help me mod my minecraft account?

I need something extra to keep me busy while I wait for 1.8 to come out, so would you mind giving me a clear explanation on how to mod my minecraft account? Do you guys have any good mods that you can recommend? And, finally, is there a possibility that I can corrupt my files if I mod my account?

You can corrupt your files, but you can just redownload minecraft.jar and you should be fine.

As for instructions, it’s usually specific to the mod, and you’d probably be best off finding a couple mods that you like and trying to install them from what they say in their readmes. For mac it won’t be much different except the programs you use will be different.

I’d start with some texture packs, though. They’re the easiest to install and usually come with a convenient little patcher.
