Do guys find red lipstick on girls sexy?

Asked by QueenOfNowhere (1871points) July 16th, 2011

If a girl doesn’t have much make up, but only red lipstick, does it look cute? Also, if she is quite pale and has brown hair.

I’m sure some guys do. And some guys don’t. Honestly, you shouldn’t be too concerned about what anyone else thinks… if you like it, wear it! It’s far more important for you to be happy with how you look. :)

@augustlan got it. (My own opinion is that lipstick is one of the most unattractive things a woman can do to her appearance. That and mascara. And other makeup. There is nothing more beautiful than women. Whoever it was that created makeup probably had some things s/he had to work out.)

@tom_g I disagree. Would you feel more attracted to a girl with lots of zits all over her face, or the same girl without any zits. makeup is just a way to cover certain things on the face(for me temporary) also to make the beauty more beautiful. of course I hate too much make up and I think it looks fake, but makeup in general is not a definately no

@QueenOfNowhere – It’s all personal preference. I would prefer a woman with zits on her face than zits + makeup. Eyes to me look more beautiful as…well, eyes, rather than eyes with all kinds of black stuff around them. Same goes for lips. Same goes for skin. Skin is not some kind of uniform blemish-free surface. If I was attracted to that, I’d probably be into some kind of kinky plastic sex-doll stuff. Real women have real skin with real blemishes – and real beauty.

By the way, we spent some time on makeup/no makeup here

I think when it’s the right colOr red it looks gorgeous. Like, 50’s movie star glamorous. I haven’t found the right shade yet so everytime I try it I look like an escaped clown.

@QueenOfNowhere I don’t think that the makeup itself is unattractive especially if done correctly it can truly enhance anyone’s beauty man or woman….I think I do understand where you are coming from.
I have a whole bunch of makeup in my cupboard none of which I wear because I quickly realized after putting on a full face of the stuff that I had literally painted my face! I then thought back to Halloween when I had dressed as a mime and painted my whole face. Needless to say I felt quite ridiculous and every time I put on makeup since then I still feed ridiculous when I think of that fact that I am painting over my face in order to look “better”.

On a conscious level, no. Philosophically and aesthetically, I’m a lot like @tom_g .

But there’s probably a subconscious reaction at work. Red lipstick has become a cultural meme for “sexy”, so a woman wearing it is sending out a signal that she wants to be considered sexy. That will make males relate to her on different terms whether or not they’re aware of why that is. That’s not necessarily a matter of aesthetics; it’s a matter of message.

I don’t. I find it absolutely revolting… Like in those lipstick commercials. Ugh. I shudder at the very thought.

It depends. Some might like it and some might hate it. It’s just a matter of personal preference.
But if you really like it then go ahead and wear it. Its for your own good.

Primeval instincts in man direct them to seek out such women.
Red lips on women are a sign of being ready to mate.
It made me laugh when women used black lipstick. Were they trying to make their mouths look more like an anus?

I think it’s gross, but that’s just my opinion.

Applying lipstick is an art. If you take the time to do it right, and draw the line at the very edge of the lip and not beyond, I think it can be extremely seductive. But I swear most girls don’t have a clue and just slop it on thinking that they’re making their lips look fuller if they go beyond the lip line.

ATTENTION LADIES!!!
If you apply lipstick beyond your normal lip line, you end up looking like a clown. Being a clown is MY JOB, not yours. And I don’t need lip stick to be your personal private love clown.

You need to go all-out to pull it off, in my opinion. I used to wear red lipstick every day, and if I had like shorts and a t-shirt and no other makeup, it just looked silly. Now I wear it on days I actually do my hair, wear nice clothes, and wear eye makeup as well. Lipstick with no eye makeup is too much for me, at least.

QueenOfNowhere's avatar

@tom_g again, I said that is too much makeup.
Makeup This girl has make up too, which makes her looks even prettier. You probably like girls with makeup but not obvious ones.

tom_g's avatar

@QueenOfNowhere – Just believe me. This woman you linked to does not look attractive me to me. All I see is makeup. She might actually be an attractive woman, but I’d never know that unless I could see her without all of that stuff all over her face.
Re: “you probably like girls with makeup…” – I’m not sure this is true.

@tom_g all you see on that girl is makeup? That’s the most natural looking face with makeup on I’ve seen in a while. If you saw me you’d think I was a drag queen.
