What are somethings which you can get away with living in a less developed country ?

Asked by sophiesword (2294points) July 19th, 2011

Obviously we all want our country to lend the loans rather than taking them and be able to get out of the house with out having to think twice about your safety. However what are some of the advantages of living in a developing country where the laws are overlooked sometimes?

Your answers can be funny as well as thoughtful but please to not pin point any country which might be going through a rough patch.

I’m confused, you want things from less developed countries, or developing countries? What development stage are we at here?! Lol.

Welcome to Fluther.

If we can’t point to specific developing countries like the USA then that’s going to take all the fun out.

In some countries no one asks for “the last four digits of your social” ... or if they did, they’d understand when you gave them a blank look.

@Blackberry any country which does not have an HDI higher than 6.5 basically developing or under developed countries

@CWOTUS if you can do it tastefully than I guess there’s no harm…go ahead

You can bribe your way out of a traffic ticket.

@Blackberry “Less developed” and “developing” basically mean the same thing: they’re euphemisms for “poor”.

I would assume it’s less expensive to live there

Oh ok, gotcha. Well you can definitely get away with more human rights abuses. There’s also the cheap factor as well.

I’ve always wanted to mount a .50 caliber machine gun in the bed of a pickup. Saturday night, here we come!

I’ve been traveling for the last few months and now I’m just relaxing at home. My country is rather poor and people governing it do not do their best for the people here. But the city I live in is rather safe [a lot of police roaming the streets and a lot of them are dressed as civilians]. And this because there are a lot of tourists around and we want to keep it safe for them to return here.
I missed all the noise / freedom and these things I can do home. To bad I will have to live again in august but who cares, I’ll just enjoy it while I stay here.
I wouldn’t want to live in another country than mine for a long time because I do not want the laws to be applied to the letter. If you do something wrong it’s not only that most bargain with the cops it’s just the cops take some time analyzing the deed before saying something. I’ve done a lot of bad things and I lost my temper a lot of times and did crazy things. For some I got fines but in some cases I could explained what happened and they were really nice and understood me. But i fixed the bag things I’ve done after apologizing.

The IRS will not jump down your throat for unpaid taxes.

My SO and I were recently in a country considered third world. The travel guidelines cautioned to not show public displays of affection. They also mentioned that homosexuality was frowned upon (to put it lightly) due to the predominantly Muslim community beliefs.

What was interesting is that we occasionally saw pairs of native men strolling about hand in hand. I would like to see more of that in the US, whether it is a couple, a friendship or family member.

when standing at a chips stand, waiting for the man to fill your packet you can eat up all his chips and he will never complain!!

@Simone_De_Beauvoir Ouch, that one sucks. Not your comment, the practice.

The ‘less developed’ countries are often more advanced socially that the countries of the West. You can expect a tight social order that people respect and adhere to and I shouldn’t try to ‘get away’ with anything.

You could employ slave labour, bribe public officials and live like royalty!

What are the advantages of corruption being the rule rather than the exception? Hmm. Well, if you’re rich already, you can get richer much more easily than poor people can. Not unlike the United States.
