With this debt problem and the threat of no disability or social security checks being issued what is our opinion?

The government has no choice, but to raise the debt ceiling. I am not for this, but millions of people on Soc. Security, will not let this happen. It’s their money, no matter how the government has borrowed from it.

Both sides are being their usual hard nose and will wait till the last minute to okay the ceiling.

I would not worry about it. I am expecting mine to be right on time.

The 14th ammendment arguably gives the President the authority to unilaterally raise the debt limit to cover nondiscretionary spending. It has not been tested in court so there would probably be a fight over it, but I believe he can do it.

I don’t think he should, but he can do it.

The reps have been pressured by Wall Stree to raise the debt ceiling, and the reps already gave in.
And to save face and protect the image of the republican party, mcconnel is his name i think, proposed this:
Republicans would agree to give the president the authority to raise the debt ceiling without congressional approval, leaving them with the option to vote on a disapproval of that order, which the president can then veto.
That way they can make their wall street masters happy without having to take actual responsibility for their actions, to protect the public image of the republican party.
Pretty disgusting, is it not? Just shows that republicans have no interest in the wellbeing of america, just their own image and power.

Of course they will. Obama is all BS!

yup. Obama is right, it would be a catastrophe if the congress doesn’t act, but they know it and, regardless of their ridiculous stance, the debt ceiling will be lifted. David Brooks, Republican, has been writing some terrific articles on what is going on, and how the antics of the really, really conservative R’s in the house are missing out on some amazing opportunities that Obama is offering.
